Camera System Types
Residential camera systems can use Wi-Fi cameras, wired analog systems, PoE network cameras or a mix of indoor and outdoor devices. Recording may happen locally on an NVR or DVR, on a memory card or through a cloud service tied to the product.
Video doorbells have their own service, while smart locks and general smart devices remain separate. This service is for multi-camera or surveillance-oriented systems where coverage and recording are part of the project.
Coverage and Camera Placement
Camera placement should focus on the areas the customer wants to see, such as entries, driveways or side yards, while avoiding unnecessary views of neighboring private spaces. Height, field of view and backlighting affect the usefulness of an image.
Photos of the property can help plan the system before mounting. A camera installed too high or pointed mainly at bright sky can perform worse than a carefully chosen lower location.
Wired, PoE and Wi-Fi Cameras
PoE cameras carry data and power over network cable, while Wi-Fi models still need a local power source unless they are battery-operated. Traditional wired systems can use different cabling and recorder types.
Existing network equipment and cable routes should be identified. New line-voltage power or difficult concealed cabling may require separate electrical or construction scope.
Recorder, Cloud and App Setup
Local recorder systems need storage drives, network connection and channel setup. Cloud cameras depend on the manufacturer's account and may require a subscription for certain features.
Basic app and remote-view configuration can be completed while the customer controls passwords and recovery settings. Subscription purchases and long-term account management remain with the customer.
Cabling, Power and Exterior Mounting
Exterior cameras need weather-appropriate mounting and cable entries that do not create uncontrolled water paths. Cable routes should also avoid sharp bends and exposed locations where they are easy to damage.
New circuits, extensive wall fishing or repairs to finished surfaces must be confirmed separately from camera installation.
Privacy & Monitoring Boundaries
Camera installation does not include professional alarm monitoring, cybersecurity services or legal advice about recording. The customer is responsible for how the cameras are used, who receives access and how recordings are retained.
Installer access to accounts should be temporary and minimized. Passwords, private recordings and household surveillance data should remain under customer control.
FAQ
Can wired and wireless cameras be combined?
Some systems can, depending on recorder and platform compatibility.
Does installation include cloud subscriptions?
No, subscriptions remain with the customer.
Is professional monitoring included?
Not unless a separate monitoring service is explicitly provided.
