Playset Condition Assessment
An existing playset should be reviewed across the main frame, towers, beams, stairs, railings, swings, slides and anchors. The most visible cosmetic wear may not be the most important repair.
Assembly and relocation have separate services. Playset Repair & Restoration is for an existing installed structure that the customer wants to keep in service.
Loose Hardware/Stability
Bolts and brackets can loosen as wood dries and the structure moves with use and weather. Loose connections should be corrected before new finish or accessories are added.
A leaning tower or moving support post can indicate a larger structural or anchoring issue.
Wood Damage & Splinters
Weathered wood can crack, splinter or develop localized rot. Minor roughness can be refinished, while soft structural components may require replacement.
The service does not coat over deteriorated wood simply to improve appearance.
Metal/Rust
Metal brackets, swing hangers and fasteners can corrode. Surface rust and severe section loss are different conditions, and heavily damaged hardware should be replaced with compatible parts.
Unknown replacement bolts should not be substituted where the playset relies on specific structural hardware.
Swings/Slides/Accessories
Chains, seats, ropes, slides and climbing accessories can wear independently from the frame. Replacement parts should fit the original system or use an approved compatible method.
Accessories should be installed only after the support frame is confirmed stable.
Restoration Finish Boundary
Cleaning, sanding and compatible stain or sealer can refresh sound wood after repairs. Finish work is not a substitute for replacing rot or correcting unstable anchors.
Weather and drying requirements should follow the selected coating.
Repair vs Replacement
Localized damage can support repair, while widespread rot, severe corrosion or missing proprietary components can make replacement more practical.
FAQ
Can a weathered playset be restained?
Yes after structural repairs and preparation.
Does staining fix rot?
No. Stain or sealer refreshes sound wood after repair; it does not restore rotten structural components or unstable anchors. Soft wood, widespread deterioration and damaged hardware should be assessed before cosmetic restoration.
Can generic hardware replace missing bolts?
Structural hardware should match the playset requirements.
