Project Planning
Interior painting starts with the rooms and surfaces included, existing color, desired finish and the condition of walls, ceilings and trim. A color change from dark to light can require different preparation from repainting a similar shade.
Significant drywall damage should be handled under the repair service rather than hidden inside ordinary paint prep.
Protecting the Room
Furniture, floors, fixtures and hardware near the work area need appropriate protection. Items can be moved or covered so preparation and painting do not spread dust or coating onto finished surfaces.
Occupied rooms may also require a sequence that keeps pathways and essential areas usable.
Wall Prep
Small nail holes, minor dents, loose caulk and surface dirt should be addressed before paint. Cracks, water damage or failed drywall joints may need more substantial repair.
Clean preparation creates a more consistent finish than applying new paint over loose or contaminated surfaces.
Primer & Finish Coats
Primer can help over repairs, bare material, stains or large color changes. Finish coats then provide color and sheen using a product appropriate for the room.
No guarantee is made for a fixed number of coats for every wall because color, substrate and product coverage vary.
Walls/Ceilings/Trim
Walls, ceilings, baseboards and casing can use different sheens and application methods. The included surfaces should be clear before the project starts.
Cabinet painting and furniture refinishing are separate from general interior room painting.
Color/Sheen
Matte, eggshell, satin and higher-sheen products reflect light differently and tolerate cleaning differently. Choice depends on room use and appearance preference.
Basic color and sheen choices can be discussed, while professional interior-design services are separate unless specifically confirmed.
Drywall-Repair Boundary
Minor prep is normal, but larger holes, failed seams, access cuts and water-damaged board belong under Drywall & Wall Repair. Those repairs should be completed before the room is treated as ready for finish paint.
Keeping that boundary clear prevents painting from being used as a substitute for wall repair.
FAQ
Does interior painting include patching small nail holes?
Minor prep can be included.
Are major drywall repairs included?
Major drywall repairs are separate from ordinary paint preparation. Large holes, failed seams, access cuts or water-damaged board belong under Drywall & Wall Repair and should be corrected before the room is ready for finish paint.
Can one coat always cover?
No. Coverage varies with the existing color, substrate and chosen paint. Repairs, bare material, stains or a major color change may need primer and additional finish coats, so a fixed one-coat result is not assumed.
