Enclosure Types
Tub enclosures can use framed sliding doors, semi-frameless systems or hinged panels depending on the opening and product. The existing tub and wall surfaces determine which mounting method is practical.
Walk-in tubs and full shower remodeling have separate services because they change the bathing fixture rather than just the enclosure.
Measuring the Opening
Width, height and out-of-square conditions should be measured before the enclosure is ordered. A small dimensional error can prevent doors from overlapping or sealing correctly.
The product should match the tub ledge and wall construction, not just the nominal opening width.
Wall/Tub Conditions
Mounting surfaces should be sound enough for tracks or hinges, and the tub rim needs to provide the support expected by the enclosure system.
Loose tile, deteriorated wallboard or serious water damage should be repaired before new glass or frames are installed.
Doors/Rollers/Hardware
Sliding doors rely on tracks and rollers, while hinged systems need secure wall hardware. Worn rollers, loose handles and failed guides can sometimes be repaired without full enclosure replacement.
Replacement parts need to match the system. Generic hardware may not fit older or specialty enclosures.
Seals & Water Containment
Bottom guides, sweeps and vertical seals help direct water back into the tub. They should be positioned according to the door design without preventing normal movement.
An enclosure reduces splash but does not repair failed waterproofing behind the wall.
Repair vs Replacement
Repair can make sense when the glass and frame remain sound and the problem is limited to rollers, seals or hardware. Damaged glass, corroded frames or obsolete parts can make full replacement more practical.
Repair versus replacement should be based on the condition of the glass, frame, rollers, seals and available parts.
